Crysis Info
Crysis is a new first person shooter being developed by Crytek, the makers of the award-winning Far Cry. The game is to be released (hopefully) in Q2, 2007 and will be published under EA Games.
Players take the role of Jake Dunn, a United States Delta Force Soldier sent into a mysterious island in the South China Sea to investigate an unidentified flying object that has crash in the area.
Crysis is highly anticipated, as it will be one of the first Direct X 10 games. Some of the technology it will utilize include dynamic day/night cycle, fully interactive environments, sunrays and diffuse transmission, real time soft shadows, soft particles, interactive/destructible environments, volumetric clouds, and advanced shader technology. Please see the demonstration video in the download section to view this.

Posted on June 28, 2007
The images are not even the same. However, look carefully at the shader levels..the lights! There's a difference.
Posted on July 03, 2007
they are prity much the same except if oyu look the jungle looks deeper on the dx10 one but plz answer my question will there be one game that runs on both or a dx9 version.
Posted on July 04, 2007
Not much difference in the jungle one, however the second one, you can definately tell the differance with the lighting and rain etc... on the floor...

Thanks for interesting article.

and another thing! microsoft is paying loads of cash to game companies to do vids where dx10 acctualy looks better. i have nothing against dx10 but i think we are getting fouled.
Posted on August 24, 2007
i forgot something...in the dx9 vid there is no rain on. we can see in bioshock there is no diff in dx9 and dx10. there isnt many diff now but in a year there could be. and light beams are visible in bioshock so youre telling me they wont be in crysis(i mean on dx9 version of it)?

Posted on September 25, 2007
the dx10 version looks way better among the dx9 version..IMO
im a xp user but i will buy vista on when the sp1 will be released
Posted on September 27, 2007
These pics show different images for comparison! Any half aware idiot knows you can't compare between different scenes. All this looks like is differences in contrast ratio to me. As soon as I saw different images in comparison I knew this was pointless.
Posted on October 09, 2007
If you can't see the difference in these...your either blind or retarded.
The DX 10 version looks a ton better, especially in the second set of screens. I'll never understand the dinosaurs who refuse to change....
Posted on October 10, 2007
You blithering idiot, it is impossible to judge from these particular pictures because these pictures do not show an identical scene. Why would they not show an identical scene to compare, which is bog-standard practise. Even a tech destite noob should now this.
Posted on October 14, 2007
You have to watch the videos to actually see the difference. In full motion the dx 10 version absolutely craps on the dx 9. It's amazing.

I have Dual Boot on my computer and I ran Crysis demo on both and vista is so much better to run games, it's much more powerful!, I still like XP. I haven't had any problems with vista (not yet anyway) and one important thing I noticed is that my computer does not get as hot after using games like in XP as vista is only using what it need unlike XP which is running programs in the background and it uses normal ram if it runs out of video ram which I think is a really good feature.

There's a difference, but not so utterly ground shaking that I would put up with Vista for it. Vista still remains terrible for games. Performance of DX10 clients aside, I don't like having to sit at my computer and pray the new game I just got will actually be compatible. That's exactly why I don't use linux, because I actually like to know my games will work. I tried switching over to Vista recently for DX10, but between the performance hits and then finally finding out that one of my new games wouldn't run in vista at all, period, regardless of every work around I threw at it, that was the last straw. DX10 and Vista were a mistake that gamers on the whole get to pay for now.

The difference really isn't worth enduring an OS change. Very High on XP looks just as good as the Vista Very High, with very trivial differences. The lighting is practically identical, and I'm mostly seeing extra foliage/clutter effects in the DX10 shots.
Not worth the headache of upgrading to an OS that still needs more work.

Actually, DX9 and DX10 mode in Crysis are almost identical once you use the tweak that allows Very High quality mode in DX9 mode. These comparison shots, taken from the video, are in fact false.
Microsoft had EA put pressure on Crytek to code Crysis so that DX10 mode looks far better than DX9, in order to sell Vista.
The only real difference I can see after playing in both modes is that blur effects, especially distance blurring, is better in DX10 mode. That's it.
Anyway, I dual boot with XP and Vista, and I've stuck with DX9 mode in XP. More stability, better FPS count and virtually identical visuals when compared to DX10 mode.
Don't be suckered by false marketing strategies.

You can force dx9 in comand line when using vista for FPS boost.

I like cake

If u want to see a difference between dx 10 and dx 9, search for Flight Simulator X DX10 its amazazing
Posted on April 02, 2008
well vista's dx10 only plays with colors. if you guys have seen some other comparisons you'll see that dx9 has more contrast but its cartoonish. dx10 changes the color and makes the lighting and environment more realistic. the cost of dx10 is the decrease in performance which is total bullshit.
Posted on May 16, 2008
ok, DX10 is an advertising gimmik.
DX9.oc > DX10 thats just it. DX9.oc can do everything DX10 can do. DX10 is just some little teeny tiny bius that microsoft made up because vista was getting so many problems they thought hey lets rename DX9 into DX10 and say its awsome so peepl will buy our vista bullshit. vista sucks what kind of cluster fuck would switch to it on purpose.
